Hello! My name is Joe. I recently (beginning of April) attended my first Dagorhir "event" (Welcrie's scheduled practice on Sunday, April 1) and had a great time with a few guys (and gals) who were there. I brought with me my friend, Tevin, who is similarly a newcomer to Dagorhir and has an immense interest in keeping up with and participating in local events.
Though we hadn't expected there to be practice on Easter Sunday the following week, we were disappointed to find that nobody had shown up at NMC at all yesterday (April 15), or to weapons training on Thursday (April 12).
We'd really like to know if there is anybody out there who would like to consistently spend some time with Tevin and myself once or twice every week doing practice (especially during the scheduled times on Sundays and Thursdays), helping us to gather materials for crafting weapons and armour, and actually teaching us both how to make our own garb and weapons.
I am with Tevin every weekday after school, from 3:00pm-5:00pm (later on some days) and every Sunday for an hour before and after the scheduled practices, so anytime within these...times...works well for us (we have some flexibility, sure, but due to my heavy work schedule, not much, really). If anybody is interested in getting in touch with us and helping out, please contact me (a message here will do just fine) and we can work something out.
Thanks!

Well, I'm a little bummed to hear that NO ONE was there on the 15th... But rest assured that our practices are pretty consistent.
The 13th-15th there was a major event down in Indianapolis, so five of our more veteran fighters were at that, myself included... I guess everyone else got scared off by the little amount of rain.
But again, keep trying to show up, I know I for one will be there this Sunday, and my unit should be as well.

And as far as help goes, yeah, there are a lot of people that like to spend time helping out people new to Dagorhir.
Usually our practices bring in 8-15 people depending on the time of year... But a little rain usually scares off some of the less rugged types.

I believe I remember the two of you. The field you were on on the 1st is our old field. We have moved down between east and west hall rite on main campus. Thursday training is from 5-7pm. Sunday practice is still noon to 4 or 5 ish It is generally a small practice with 5-10 people. It is more technical and "how-to-fight" practice. I will be at both practices and look forward to seeing new faces on the field of battle.

The Thursday practice is the small, technical practice. If you want to get some weapon practice without all the field battles, that's the one to go to. And the weekend practice is on Sundays from 12-4 or 5, not Saturdays. We were there Thursday, but like Aldvarg said, we were between East and West halls. We'll be there again this week, stop on by.

Yeah. I'm especially interested in getting Tevin in on the "technical practice"; he's often the type to come up with his own plans and go with his own ideas if he's not shown a lot of others in advance (if you were there, you might remember him saying, several times, things like "I have a plan," and "Let's split up"), so it's important to "show him the ropes" before he gets in the habit of devising his own schemes.
Most importantly, however, I'd like to get him (and myself, even!) to work with somebody on making a weapon or two, including what types of materials to use, so that he/we can get started on that; as I mentioned, he was so excited after last time, he went about decapitating an old golf club, wrapping it in a coat, sewing socks over it, and calling it good (even though it quite obviously was/is NOT). So, what I'm hoping for is to see if somebody (one of you, or somebody you know, whichever works) wants to spend a day or two this week and/or next week (or the following, or really anytime in the near future, I guess; might be tough to find/spend the time right now, with finals drawing near, I suppose) helping us shop for materials to craft weapons/armour, then actually craft them (and I can drive us to wherever we might need to go).
I'll note the location for this week and hope to see you guys there.

Dagorhir.com is the national boards. There is a rules section and a how to section there to get you started and familiar with our sport. *Disclaimer their forums are full of trolls and idiots.* However there is good info there if you want to sift through it all. Show up Thursday and we can answer your questions.

Welcome! I'm so glad there is a noob motivated to get weapons and garb done
From experience, I will tell you that it is really, really important to have good garb. I will be happy to help you if you need it (I even have an experimental sewing buisiness). There is an event on May 5th coming up where garb is required and even if you don't go to a lot of events, it is still a good idea to sew some garb since although garb is not required for Sunday practices, it is encouraged because let's face it, it looks cool seeing a bunch of random people dressed all medieval fighting each other and gets people interested.
Yeah, national boards can have a bunch of trolls and idiots. The reason why I am on there is well, it is amusing to hang with a bunch of idiots and trolls.

That would be WONDERFUL if you could help us out! I'm a very busy person, myself, so I don't have much but a little time here and there when I'm not with Tevin, and when I am, we're pretty on-the-go; if you're willing to hang out with us for a couple of hours for a few days over the next couple of weeks, that would be wonderful! Send me a message and maybe we can exchange some contact information and work something out. Sound okay?
