After reviewing all of the videos we took last practice, I gotta put this out here....
TRAIN YOURSELF TO TAKE YOUR HITS. Unless they are so light that they are barely noticeable. If you get hit, take it.
I've said it before, I'll say it again... HONOR IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN WINNING!!
Sluffs happen. everyone sluffs a shot or two. If you obviously hit someone, ask on it after the exchange. If someone asks you about a hit that you didn't take, THINK ABOUT IT. Was it too light? Were you too wrapped up in adrenaline to consider it? Think about what happened, and then KEEP THAT IN MIND next time you fight.
There was SO many blown off shots in the videos that several minutes of certain clips were reduced to SECONDS after taking out the douchery.
If someone doesn't take your shots, HIT EM HARDER. If it gets too much of an issue, bring it up. If YOU are an issue, fix yourself.
I won't point fingers, I won't name names... But if I see it again on the field, I will politely remind you of it. If it becomes an obvious and re-occuring problem, It WILL be addressed.

Thank you for the reminder... I know I was a bit timid my first time last practice, but that was the one thing I did. Infact, it almost felt like I was a bit too generous when it came to taking hits, but I guess that is better than not taking them when they were deserved.
When watching you guys off to the side though, I didn't really notice anything, but thank you for mentioning that. I guess when in doubt, take the hit. Hopefully next practice will go better.

There was some confusion as to what we were trying to pull off during some of the shield charges, plus everyone want to be the hero on film. IHO I feel alot better when some calls insuficent when hit lightly, as apposed to saying nothing at all and continuing to fight. For example Aldvarg and Wilhelm square off to fight. Aldvarg swings an barely grazes Wilhelm's leg. At that point Wilhelm call insuficent. At that point I would feel much better because Wilhem has acknowleged the hit. Same two fighters, Wilhem swings and grazed Aldvarg's leg but the fight continues whithout Aldvarg claiming insuficent. At this point Wilhem may feel like Aldvarg is not taking his hits. I personaly have had no problems at all when myself or an opponate has called light.

And when given instructions to "swing for the shield, don't go for kill shots," that might add a little confusion.

Actually, we were laughing and understood the confusion with the shield-charge fighting, the big sluff-fest were during the sheep battle.

I don't think we ever saw you not taking hits, so don't feel too worried.

I don't think we ever saw you not taking hits, so don't feel too worried. Because I am a ninja! LOL As I said in the previous post I know it happened in the shield charges. I did it some too, that is why I tried to help explain and make ppl feel better. And to keep the wrath Wilhelm at bay. But if there IS douchery going on I am not making any excuses for that.

Dude if I didn't take a hit call me on it lately some of the hits on me I haven't been feeling till after the battle, a delayed pain to it, and afterwords I feel like a douche.

Njordr I've seen you take shots you SHOULDN'T have. lol Guys, this isn't what I'd call douchery. Sluffing a shot or two happens to EVERYONE! It's part of the game, and there are plenty of reasons it exists. It's just stuff we've been seeing a lot of, and want to start addressing. When we see someone doing it now majorly, we'll talk to them about it. If they shrug THAT off and the sluffing commences, THEN it's douchery.

Once upon a time (I'm Mama Heron I start all my stories that way) the Eryndor policy was "hit hard take light" It's still my personal policy. I really don't like all this new "sufficient force" BS. If ANYONE is going to call "light" it should be the person swinging. As in "no man, don't take that it was light" (good honor). If you felt it enough to have to say "light" it was "sufficient".

When I call insuficient it is usually "garb". Sure I felt it it but I really doubt I would bleed out or loose the use of a limb because you put a hole in my pantleg. If a weapon hit me squarely even lightly I will take the hit. (unless told not to)

Personally, I'm all for the "sufficient force" thing. In a game that is supposed to be full contact and simulate medieval combat I don't feel that a little tappy tap would be enough to make anyone lose life or limb. I'm not saying you have to swing for the fences for a hit to count, but I also feel that a swing that makes contact but nothing more is light and should be treated as such.

I'm with Rannulf. This is a combat sport, not a performance art, the problem with the 'noticable force' rule before was that the game all around was getting to a point were someone would tickle you with their hits a good three times in a row as they flourished around, hitting lighter than my cat, and expect each one to be a solid, counted blow.
My philosophy is gauge who you are fighting against, and go from there. Fighting a tank of a man who looks like he could throw you across the field? Knuckle down and give it your all. Fighting someone who looks like they wouldn't know what a muscle is if they were forced to lift a pound? Give em a lighter smack.
And on the flipside too, if someone looks like they couldn't swing to save their lives, take that little contact that you felt.
----
And for every sluffed shot, raise your stakes and hit that person harder. Eventually you'll find their threshold for taking shots.
